RELIGION

Provide an opportunity for each student to understand that:

• God created the world and all that is in it
• God loves him/her
• Jesus in God’s only Son and that he died for us
• We are to act like Jesus and love one another
• The Bible is a special book that tells us about God
• Church is a special place where we come together to listen to God’s word

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL

Model behavior and encourage students to:

• Express feelings appropriately
• Form positive relationships with peers and adults
• Show empathy for others

LANGUAGE ARTS

Provide the opportunity for each student to:

• Respond to verbal directions
• Listen with understanding
• Identify and name letters of the alphabet
• Understand letter-sound relationships
• Handle a book and track print from left to right and top to bottom
• Write first name using upper and lower case letters
• Recognize last name in print

MATH

Using manipulatives, provide an opportunity for students to:

• Order objects in a series or by rows
• Sort and classify objects by a variety of properties
• Demonstrate an early understanding of measuring using non-standard units
• Making comparisons such as larger and smaller
• Demonstrate one-to-one correspondence
• Add and subtract using manipulatives
• Recognize, count, and write numbers
• Recognize and name two and three dimensional shapes

SCIENCE

Through non-fiction reading and hands on experience, prompt students to:

• Identify common objects seen in the sky, water and land
• Ask questions about organisms and events in the environment
• Discuss the differences between living and non-living things
• Make comparisons between materials

SOCIAL STUDIES

Through daily routines, literature, and current events, lead students to:

• Help each other and treat people fairly
• Identity rules and understand roles/jobs in the classroom and community
• Identify different types of weather and seasons
• Describe holidays and traditions
• Understand what a calendar is and what it is used for

THE ARTS

To gain exposure and explore the arts, including:

• Movement and dance
• Drama
• Music
• Visual art

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

To develop:

• Gross motor skills
• Balance and coordination
• Group participation
• Self-confidence and good sportsmanship
